Looking at Profitable Niches for Your Next Book

I love researching and finding interesting trends, topics, and niches that aren’t talked about much.

To give myself an excuse to spend more time looking at keywords and their statistics, I’ve started a monthly KDP Niche report which is available through Gumroad (external link).

It will probably evolve to be larger as months go on and I get more feedback, but the first issue lays out 20 key phrases that have the potential to be big earners for the right book.

It’s broken into four sections.

• 5 key phrases for low and medium-content books
• 5 key phrases for activity books
• 5 key phrases for fiction and non-fiction books
• And 5 key phrases on a changing but specific topic (this month the topic is Vegan)

Of course, these key phrases aren’t limited to the sections I’ve put them in. If you’re inspired to use a key phrase I’ve put under ‘low and medium content books’ in a non-fiction book, it’s perfect for that too!

There’s also a page of resources that I use when making various books to upload to KDP.

Each key phrase I’ve covered has the following stats listed under it:

• A monthly average earning of the top sellers (which must be over $800)
• Must be searched for each month at least 200 times
• Have less than 5,000 results in the books department when searched
• Be easy to medium to rank well for – Using Publisher Rocket’s (external link) 0 to 100 competitive score system, where 0 is easy and 100 is hard, the competitive score must be between 0 and 65.
